Despite its relatively small size, the Ford Maverick isn't a city runabout. The Maverick seems like a truck, first and foremost, from the way it drives to its simple interior. This is a compact pickup that can tow and load with confidence, albeit a little smaller and less expensive than other vehicles on the market. Below, we explore its outstanding features.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Ford Maverick comes in three different trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat, with the XL being the most cost-effective option. The most basic option, the XL works best as a work truck for those who want to get the job done. The XLT adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, cruise control, a power tailgate lock, power outside mirrors, and other features, making it the most cost-effective model.
The Ford Maverick pickup's unibody architecture differs from the typical body-on-frame construction of the Ranger and F-150, yet it still has excellent towing capabilities. It is also less expensive and smaller than its larger counterparts. This makes the Maverick a good choice if you want the adaptability of a pickup truck but don't require the entire range of capabilities that a midsize or full-size truck provides.
Engine (Power)
Instead of starting with the turbocharged three-cylinder engine found in the Bronco Sport, Ford has chosen to go hybrid with the Maverick's base powerplant. All versions come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 191 horsepower coupled with an electric motor. Only front-wheel drive and a variable speed automatic transmission are available in this configuration.
A non-hybrid powertrain is also available, which features a 250-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive is optional with this motor.
Performance
Even when equipped with the standard hybrid motor, the Maverick has a payload capability of 1,500 pounds and a cargo capacity of 2,000 pounds. The Maverick can haul up to 4,000 pounds with its turbocharged four-cylinder engine and available Towing Package.
With the optional turbo-four, the Maverick seems genuinely quick on the road, reaching 60 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds. The hybrid powertrain is less energetic, but it does the job.
Interior
All Mavericks are crew cabs, meaning they have four full doors and a spacious back seat. Ford has included numerous storage cubbies and bins around the cabin, including huge storage compartments behind the back seat. The base models aren't luxurious, but they do come with standard features like a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with radio controls, remote keyless entry, and front-seat lumbar support that can be adjusted.
The Maverick's 4.5-footbed can hold up to 18 panels of 4x8-foot three-quarter-inch plywood without needing to stack them. A 12-volt power outlet is also included, with a 110-volt outlet available as an option.
Safety Features
The Ford Maverick offers great safety features, including LED highlights, automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, and pre-collision assist. Other features include rearview cameras, blind-spot monitors, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and active lane control.
